High alert as seven separate bushfires threaten Downs

FIRECREWS from Warwick are rushing to assist rural brigades as a fire threatens to burn out of control at Bent's Road in Ballandean.

Three rural crews have been at the scene of the fire since midday, but changes to the status of the fire has meant backup was required to be called in over the last half hour.

The fire was a permitted burn which has since broken its containment lines.

Crews are also on alert for another blaze on Mt Tully Rd at Mt Tully.

This is another permitted burn that has turned out of control and further crews are making their way to the scene.

Much of the Southern Downs has been blanketed in a smoky haze thanks to three further fires which have been threatening the region for the last couple of days.

Three large bushfires near Condamine River Rd at The Head are being monitored by rural fire inspectors.

These fire are largely inaccessible, confined to the cliff face in Condamine Gorge.

Killarney rural scenes are standing by should the fires worsen.

South of Warwick at Cullendore, two large fires are also being monitored by landowners and Queensland and New South Wales fire crews.

One at Maryland Cullendore Rd in Maryland is still a potential threat as it burns in the Maryland National Park.

Crews left another large fire at Cullendore Rd at Elbow Valley at 5pm yesterday.

This fire began on Monday afternoon and burnt through 100 acres of bushland before being contained.

Landowners in the area are continuing to monitor the fire.
