MAX Ackermann is aiming to make a final as he competes in the Australian Swimming Championships and Olympic trials which start in Adelaide today.
Ackermann, who attended The Scots PGC College in Warwick, now trains under Stefan Widmar and Dean Boxall at Chandler in between engineering studies at the University of Queensland.
He has nominated for the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke, 50m and 100m freestyle.
Ackermann said the 50m freestyle was just for fun.
"My best event is the 100m backstroke," he said.
He is ranked 17th in Australia with a best time of 56.41 seconds behind top-three Ben Treffers, Hayden Stoeckel and Ashley Delaney.
"It would be nice to make the finals but I am not expecting to make the team," Ackermann said.
"If I make a final it will give me more experience and confidence against the top backstrokers."
He trains in the same squad as Olympic gold medallist Libby Trickett and reckons she's a top chance for an Olympic relay spot.
