High-profile lawyer, wine buff reveals his next move

AN URGE to utilise his expertise garnered over two decades has spurred high-profile Coast lawyer Travis Schultz to re-enter the fray.

After a year out of practice spent traversing the globe, including studying at Boston's Harvard University, consulting and sampling the fares at vineyards in France, the Mornington Peninsula and Yarra Valley, Mr Schultz is preparing to re-enter the courtroom.

His new firm Travis Schultz Law is expected to be fully operational by April, the same time his non-compete clause expires.

He was busily setting up a number of offices, with a head office in Mooloolaba, an office in the Brisbane CBD and a shared office on the Gold Coast, to cover the southeast corner.

"I've still got the passion for it and I really enjoy it," Mr Schultz said.

"I felt like it was something I needed to do."

The Coast local said he was focused on creating a smaller, boutique franchise with a maximum of about 10-12 staff on the team offering more personal service.

He was focusing on his areas of expertise: tort law, specifically civil litigation and insurance.

Personal injury, civil claims, professional negligence and claims against banks were examples of the work he would undertake.

He said he wasn't working on crime, property, family, insolvency or immigration law in the new venture.

The Queensland Law Society board member was a former founder of STO Law, a firm which was acquired by Slater and Gordon for $20 million back in 2014.

Mr Schultz said he stayed on for a couple of years following the takeover to assist with the transition, finalise existing matters and train staff.

He said the process of establishing his new practice had been exciting and the spark was well and truly reignited as he started working with former long-term colleagues again.

"It's been very exciting just setting up, strategising and reconnecting," Mr Schultz said.

He was hopeful former clients would support the new venture once it was up and running.
