Major works for busy Rocky intersection
WORK will start this week on the upgrade of the Bruce Highway and Upper Dawson Rd intersection in Rockhampton.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson said the new intersection work was the next stage in the $85million Yeppen North project, after pile driving for the new Yeppen Bridge passed the half-way mark last week.
"Traffic signals will soon manage the traffic flow and vehicles will no longer need to stop in the centre median to cross the highway," he said.
"Since work started on the project in April, crews have been focused on building the second Yeppen Bridge crossing and earthworks adjacent to the Capricorn Hwy.
"From Wednesday, September 19, work will start at the Upper Dawson Rd, Jellicoe St and Bruce Highway intersection to raise the road by more than two metres and ultimately build the new intersection with turning lanes and traffic signals," he said.
Mr Emerson said the intersection would be built in two parts.
"First, the Upper Dawson Rd side will be built resulting in highway traffic being reduced to one lane in each direction on the existing southbound corridor," he said.
"Upper Dawson Rd will be closed between the highway and Nathan St, with traffic accessing the Allenstown area via Prospect or Derby Sts."
The Jellicoe St half of the intersection will be built early next year.
