Historic home goes under the hammer today
OVERLOOKING the city of Rockhampton, all the way across to the Berserker Mountains, this historic home on Athelstane St is up for auction today.
Pat O'Driscoll's senior sales consultant Penny Keating said this two-storey house dates back to the 1880s.
"It was originally built for the harbour master so he could see when boats would come in to the wharfs on East St," she said.
"It's been in the one family for over 40 years."
The home, which boasts six bedrooms, two bathrooms, an English-style bar, covered verandahs on both levels, with original metal lacework, is set on a 1770sqm block. Ms Keating said there had been a lot of interest in the house. The auction will take place at 11.15am.
"There have been a lot of home owners looking to turn it into their own house," Ms Keating said.
She said there also had been a number of investors looking to renovate.
