Home sustains substantial damage in fire at The Caves

A YOUNG family was safely evacuated from a house fire in Steiners Road, The Caves earlier this morning.

The family was awoken by the sound of smoke alarms, evacuated the residence, and contacted emergency services at 1.50am after a fire was detected in the ceiling of the home.

The Caves Rural Fire Brigade and Rockhampton Fire Services teams arrived at the home shortly after and extinguished the blaze by 4am.

The property sustained substantial damage, particularly to the roof structure.

Rockhampton Police are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
