Homes, daycare evacuated after chemicals found at house

BREAKING: Police have evacuated homes and a daycare centre after declaring an emergency situation in Ayr, north of Mackay, this afternoon.

Initial information suggests police were executing a search warrant at an address on Brisbane St when they located a quantity of unknown chemicals.

The Townsville Bulletin is reporting the chemicals and items found were possibly used to make explosive devices.

A declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act was made at 2.45pm, with the area affected bordered by Adelaide St, Norham Rd, Michael St and Edward St.

Specialist officers are attending the scene and police are asking that everyone avoid the area.
