Honouring Santa with parade before Carols by Candlelight
LEX Semple was a character who played an integral part in shaping the Capricorn Coast community as we know it today.
Next weekend the town will celebrate his memory with the annual Lex Semple Memorial Christmas Parade.
The parade will kick-off Carols by the Beach event on Sunday, December 13.
Lex's daughter Julie Tickner said she encouraged the community to get involved by putting together a float.
"We're hoping that one day the parade will be as big as the Rockhampton Christmas parade," she said.
Julie said she and many locals had fond memories of her father's Santa run, which featured a sleigh on top of his car.
"The Santa in the sleigh would throw lollies out to the children," Julie recalled.
"My dad was the father of nine children but he also wanted to put a smile on all of the kids' faces in town, rich or poor.
"He decided to do the run so all children would have a wonderful memory of Christmas."
Julie said it was a very emotional day for the family.
"My brother Barry made a replica of the sleigh dad used to have, so this year's parade is going to be even more special," she said.
"We are putting this sleigh on the back of a green coloured semi-trailer truck."
Any children who decorate their bikes with Christmas decorations can also join the parade.
At 4.30pm, Sunday, December 13, before Carols by the Beach at Yeppoon's main beach.
