Video of hooning at Byfield causes stir on Facebook

YEPPOON Sergeant Doug Imhoff is keen to speak to the person who recorded a pair of hoons doing burnouts at Waterpark Creek on Saturday.

On Thursday Sgt Imhoff told The Morning Bulletin he was not aware of any complaints made against a driver performing burnouts in a white flat-deck utility.

Kristy Veivers posted a video to the CQ Camping and Fishing Information Only Facebook page, showing two men operating the white truck in what appears to be a dangerous manner.

The video showed white plumes of smoke rising from what looked to be the back tyres of the truck.

The pair then drove past the person recording the video, yelling inaudible dialogue.

According to the Facebook post, the incident took place on Saturday afternoon near Waterpark Creek in Byfield.

The incident sparked several responses on Facebook; many users condemned the two men in the white utility, saying "It's people like this who get these places closed down".

David Potbury said: "Us residents of Byfield put up with this stuff all the time.

"We find the worst of them being male P-platers... on average once a week there is an accident on Byfield Rd. About 90% of the time, it is a male P-plater in a 4x4 showing off to their mates.

"It is all good, until someone gets hurt.

"During a total fire ban most people come out here, like Byfield is their big playground.

"They have no respect for others or the residents... most of us are here running businesses to provide visitors with food or accommodation; maybe we should come into their backyard and show no respect."

If you have any information, or would like to show police the recording, you can call the Yeppoon Police Station on 4939 0000.
