Horse dies in stable fire at Calliope, owner injured

A DRESSAGE horse had died in a stable fire at Calliope overnight.

Police and fire crews were called to the fire on a property on Macullum St, Calliope at 12.30am on Tuesday to find the horse stable well alight.

The owner received minor injuries trying to rescue his horses from the blaze.

He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Gladstone police are at the scene. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

A crime scene has been declared while investigations are carried out.

Fire investigators from Rockhampton and a police forensics team will attend the scene this morning.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
