Hospital opens Transit Lounge
ROCKHAMPTON Hospital opens its new Transit Lounge today, giving patients a quiet and comfortable spot to rest while waiting for their transport home.
Acting executive director Chris Mummery said the new lounge was in a handy location close to the hospital’s main exit.
“From today Rockhampton Hospital patients will go through the Transit Lounge before leaving the hospital to ensure all discharge requirements have been attended,” Mrs Mummery said.
“The aim is to do a final check to ensure referrals or follow-up appointments have been arranged, and services such as crutches or medications are sorted out.”
Patients would also be asked to complete a satisfaction survey about their stay at the hospital and any feedback which may help improve the service can be provided, along with compliments.
The hospital has been using a transit lounge in a temporary location since November 2008, but the new space will provide an even more comfortable environment.
It offers a quiet waiting spot away from the hustle and bustle of the busy wards.
“It is a relaxed environment with 12 comfortable chairs, two beds, a TV, radio, tea and coffee, newspapers and magazines,” Mrs Mummery said.
“Rockhampton is a major facility that treats patients from across the region. If a family member has driven a long way to collect their loved one they are welcome to enjoy a rest and a cup of coffee before their trip home.”
