BRIAN and Karina Day have no regrets about their competitive approach to House Rules.

The Geraldton parents were the first team to be eliminated from the reality renovation show tonight.

Brian, in particular, was singled out by viewers as the show's villain for removing a set of stairs, leaving another team stranded on the second level of Ben and Danielle's Brisbane home.

"We have no regrets. We went in hard, but it is a competition," he told APN.

"We loved every minute of it and we'd do it again tomorrow."

On the show, six teams of amateur renovators carry out work on each other's homes under a tight, seven-day deadline.

Their Geraldton home was the final of the six to be renovated on the show.

As the lowest scoring team of the first round, Karina and Brian were given a second chance to avoid elimination in a 24-hour fix up challenge.

"To be given that lifeline enabled us to fix up things we didn't like," Karina said.

"Now every day we wake up and feel so comfortable.

"We did well in the scoring, we just didn't do well enough to get past the deficit that we already had."

They lost to Sydney father and daughter Steve and Tiana by just one point.

While they may not have won the show's grand prize, the payment of their mortgage, Karina and Brian are grateful for the total interior renovation of their four-bedroom home.

"For me the biggest thing was leaving our kids," Karina said.

"It was a big sacrifice, but well worth taking if you know your kids are in secure hands because what you can give them is just so rewarding. It was short-term pain for long-term gain."

They tip Melbourne couple Bronik and Corrine and Tasmanians Cassie and Matt as the two teams to beat.

"Corrine's got some great ideas and Bronik has those skills as a tradie," Brian said.

Karina added: "When I was in the competition I was mostly daunted by the styling. Cassie's got a really good eye for styling and Corrine does as well."

House Rules airs Sundays at 7pm and Mondays and Tuesdays at 7.30pm on Channel 7.
