LISTEN: How I turned my life around after losing husband
LISTEN: Rocky personal trainer Shaun Arnold responds to the kind words of his client Chyree Bailey.
I lost my husband to suicide in 2013. I lost myself, I withdrew from life and stayed at home.
I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety and drank too much alcohol and used recreational drugs just to numb the pain.
I'm not proud of myself and you may judge me but until you are in that exact situation no one has a clue.
We have four children and they were between 11 and 4 when we lost him.
To say we have been to hell and back is an understatement. I stopped talking to people, I lived my life through my phone so I didn't have to talk to anyone.
We moved to Rockhampton last July with the help of a very dear friend.
Things started to turn around, the kids were settling into school and I had started an online study program.
I still didn't go out much but we were in a better place, all five of us. Last August I was diagnosed with Diabetes Type 2 after having gestational diabetes with my last child.
I started medication and am still currently on the medication. I found out however that you can reverse diabetes to the point that you no longer require medication and well that was all the motivation I needed. I made a decision there and then that I was going to take control of my life.
I asked a friend who lives in the area what gym she attended and she told me World Gym Rockhampton and gave them a glowing review.
So that was it, I went and signed not only myself up but my two oldest children as well. Then we got a free consultation with a PT and that is where we met Shaun Arnold.
Now the three of us do personal training with Shaun and the two little kids make use of the crèche downstairs.
Hard work, absolutely, but it's the reward of going down a size in your clothing, having people notice you are losing weight, feeling your confidence grow, thinking clearly for the first time in a long time, wearing gym clothes and feeling amazing.
I no longer have depression or anxiety, I now park a block away from where I need to be and walk, we now laugh and enjoy life as a family.
I have my family back and I have my life back. It is a long road ahead, but as Shaun says to me it is a lifestyle. It is learning to eat correctly and make exercising a daily routine.
Shaun is the most inspiring man I know, he is there for any questions, to give you guidance, to keep you motivated. He makes you feel special, that you count.
The staff at World Gym make you feel awesome, friendly faces everyday and no judgement what so ever.
Everyone is there for one common goal, for their own personal growth and achievements.
I just wanted to put it out there that I have never felt so happy, so clear headed, so fit and even though my journey has just begun I can't wait to see where it will take me.
It sounds silly but the hardest part is making that first decision to want to change yourself. Thank you Shaun Arnold and World Gym Rockhampton for your continued support and inspiration.
