Kid porn pervert let free

A RECLUSIVE disability pensioner who lives with his grandma was caught with a stash of child porn so large police were unable to sort through it all.

Destin Whiteley, 23, pleaded guilty in the NT Supreme Court last week to three counts of possessing child abuse material, stemming from depraved material police found on two laptops and a CD.

Prosecutor Madelaine Cvirn said Whitely's collection was uncovered when he asked his grandma to drop one of his laptops in for repair, leading the repair man to call police.

A later raid on Whitely's house uncovered the other laptop and the CD, which police later found had almost 60,000 files of illegal material on them combined.

Ms Cvirn said much of the material was animation including bestiality and sadism.

She said Whitely’s defence lawyers agreed police could analyse 10 per cent of the material as a representative sample, to determine how bad the collection was.

Peter Maley, for Whitely, said his autistic client, had an IQ in the lowest 0.5 per cent of the population and he rarely ventured into the community.

He said Whitely did not know much of the material was illegal, which was apparent from him having his grandma take the laptop in.

Justice Anthony Graham said Whitely was not the right kind of child porn offender to send to jail as a message to others.

Whitely, who will be registered as a sex offender for 15 years, walked from court with a 15-month jail sentence, suspended from the moment the court adjourned.
