People power wins Moura Hospital reprieve

UPDATE: Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service Board chairman Charles Ware has announced the meeting with Moura Hospital staff has been postponed until next Thursday.

Now the board intends to throw its net wider and is asking the community to attend the meeting as well.

Mr Ware says the staff meeting planned for tomorrow has to be delayed following community feedback.

"It is appropriate that we carefully consider community feedback before briefing staff and meeting with the community," he said.

"At that time we will endeavour to provide a full paper outlining the future directions for health services in Moura."

EARLIER TODAY: A HUMAN wall around Moura Hospital is being planned by the community for tomorrow morning.

Residents concerned over the future of the hospital have posted an event on Facebook, inviting 375 people to the hospital before 8am.

The event states it is believed the Central Queensland Hospital and Health Board are set to meet staff at the hospital at that time.

The Facebook event, Help prevent the closure of Moura Hospital, says:

"We have got to stop this meeting from happening by coming together and linking arms to not let them in."

By 1pm today, over 100 people had responded yes to attend the protest.

It is also believed Moura business will close their doors to attend the protest meeting.
