Hundreds farewell jockey Katsidis

CHAMPION jockey Stathi Katsidis was given an emotional farewell this morning when a capacity crowd gathered for his Toowoomba funeral.

Grieving family and friends were joined by a large cross section of the Australian racing industry for the service at the Toowoomba Community Baptist Church.

Katsidis, 31, died suddenly at this Brisbane home last Tuesday.

The cause of his accidental death is still to be determined following an inconclusive post mortem examination.

Katsidis rose to the heights of Australian racing after completing a successful apprenticeship with Clifford Park trainer Graham Banks.

Today’s celebration of Katsidis’ life included a tribute penned by his brother Michael who is in Thailand training for a world boxing title fight and was unable to attend the funeral.
