Hurricanes narrowly beat Lions

THE Hurricanes stretched their winning streak over the Lions to five straight matches with a 28-30 victory at Coca Cola Park in Johannesburg on Friday.

The Lions have not beaten the Hurricanes since 2008 but came very close this time only for Beauden Barrett to kick a penalty three minutes from time to snatch the lead.

The Hurricanes were leading 8-14 at half time but the Lions came out and took the lead early into the second half.

The lead then changed sides several times until the Hurricanes put some distance between them and the Lions with tries by Hooker Dane Coles and winger Corey Jane.

As the altitude in Johannesburg started to take effect the Lions mounted a comeback with two tries of their own through Franco van der Merwe and Butch James which briefly put them into the lead.
