Icon Dental lends helping hands for free
AROUND 20 people who were unable to afford dental care got a much needed helping hand last week thanks to Icon Dental and National Dental Rescue Day.
Wanting to give something back to the community that has supported them in the past four years, Icon Dental took part in the annual National Dental Rescue Day and this year they focused on health and not just dental care.
The Icon team offered basic dental treatment to people who genuinely were in need of urgent dental care.
Clients were selected by relief agencies and established charities.
Principal dentist and practice owner Andrew Molloy said all the Icon dentists and staff donated their time and skills to provide treatment at no cost.
"Rather than focus on just dental health we put a greater focus on whole body health and wellbeing," Dr Molloy said.
"Numerous businesses assisted our efforts by donating vouchers for services and goods.
"We were able to offer some emergency style dentistry to get people out of pain, and fillings were done free of charge.
"A lot of patients do not have regular access to dental care and this National Dentistry initiative gives us the opportunity to assist."
The surgery offered services including pain relief, emergency treatment and prescription, basic oral health treatment and prevention oral health education.
