Rockhampton Art Gallery to close for repairs

IF YOU had plans to visit the Rockhampton Art Gallery, you better get in quick; the building will be closed from October 26 to December 12.

The seven-week closure is to allow for repair work to be completed after the gallery was damaged by Cyclone Marcia in February.

The gallery's exhibition schedule has meant this was the first opportunity to undertake the repair work, while minimising inconvenience to the public.

But the good news is, when repairs are completed the Anderson Room will become a permanent home for exhibitions from the gallery's growing art collection.

The December 12 opening date will coincide with a free family day.

The event will feature fun activities for the kids, and will run from 11am to 2pm.

The gallery will also re-open with two new exhibitions:

Fantastic Worlds: Contemporary Australian Sculpture

Dec. 12 to Feb. 14

This piece brings together the work of 11 contemporary Australian sculptors who use non-traditional mediums such as balloons and wood.

Right Here, Right Now: Contemporary works from the collection

Dec. 12 to Mar. 20

This piece showcases the gallery's growing collection of contemporary Australian art.
