Ingles backs NBA exhibition Down Under

BASKETBALL: Utah Jazz forward Joe Ingles is hopeful Australia will host an NBA exhibition match in the near future.

Ingles says the numbers are now with the Aussies.

"I think it can happen,” Ingles said ahead of his team's clash with the LA Lakers tomorrow morning (AEST). "I think with eight of us playing over here it is a great time to do it.”

Ingles and Jazz teammate Dante Exum are part of the Aussie NBA contingent, alongside Patty Mills, Andrew Bogut, Matthew Dellavedova, Thon Maker, Ben Simmons and Aron Baynes.

"Play it however you want. Aussies versus Americans or split them up,” Ingles said. "I think it is a great idea and will sell out really quickly - within minutes really.”

The NBA has taken pre-season games around the world and regular-season games to Japan, England and Mexico, but not yet Australia.

The Jazz is coming off a 113-104 season-opening loss to Portland.
