Inquiry into Carly-Mae's death concludes 'tragic accident'

RACING Queensland (RQ) stewards have completed their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of jockey Carly-Mae Pye in a jump out at Callaghan Park on October 13, 2014.

After reviewing the evidence, RQ stewards concluded that it was not possible to establish the reasons for the horse, Chiming Rocket, falling, despite their extensive inquiries into the incident. Therefore, it was their view that the fall and subsequent injuries to jockey Pye were the result of a tragic accident.

The stewards were satisfied that every jockey, including Carly-Mae Pye, rode in a manner that was not careless, reckless or incompetent.

Evidence was taken from Senior Stipendiary Steward Mr Luke Collins who was officiating on the day, attending Veterinary Surgeon Dr Adam Williams, Trainer of Chiming Rocket Mr John Manzelmann and Trainer Mr Tim Cook.
