Insurance repairs after Marcia are 'a balancing act'

WHEN it comes to claims, local tradespeople and builders are welcome to provide quotes, according to the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA).

In yesterday's edition of The Morning Bulletin, Yeppoon tradie Leigh Krautz aired his frustrations about insurers hiring out-of-town companies instead of locals after Cyclone Marcia.

ICA spokesman Campbell Fuller said finding the right person for the job was often a balancing act.

"Insurers seek to deliver timely and cost-effective work for their customers," Mr Fuller said.

"This may mean using existing relationships with builders; however local qualified tradespeople are encouraged to quote competitively for the work."
