A night with mates, ends with a fight involving a shovel

IT started out as a night drinking with mates.

It ended with a fight, a shovel, and a criminal charge.

John Charles Barsah had been drinking with friends at a Berserker house on September 25 when they got into a fight and kicked him out.

A few houses down 45-year-old Barsah grabbed a shovel and returned to their "party" in anger, swinging the shovel and swearing, hitting one person on the elbow.

Defence lawyer Shayne Studdert said in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Wednesday the event could best be described as a drunken brawl, and they were "all blind".

Barsah was fined $300 for stealing and $300 for public nuisance.

Magistrate Barry Cosgrove said Barsah was lucky there were no serious injuries resulting in his actions otherwise he would have faced harsher penalties.
