It was a busy weekend for coast guards on Capricorn Coast

THE Yeppoon and Keppel Sands coast guards rushed two police officers to Great Keppel Island on Saturday night after vandals pushed a car into the sea.

It was a huge weekend for the coast guard, even without the police task.

Four boats were towed back to Rosslyn Bay Harbour and two boats were escorted back.

Coast guard vessels were in operation for more than 20 hours as fine weather drew out boaties.

The coast guard helped a boatie broken down north-east of Rosslyn Bay on Saturday morning. But the boatie was able to restart the boat and made his way back to the harbour.

Another boatie contacted the coast guard for help that afternoon.

While the coast guard towed in a boat Sunday morning, they received four more calls for assistance.

A boat at Barren Island had engine problems at 10am. Another boatie broke down in the Clara Group, east of Island Head Creek, 20 minutes later. They helped return that boat to Rosslyn Bay at 6.30pm.

The next call, at 3.40pm, was for a boat broken down between Great Keppel Island and Barren Island. It was towed in about 6pm.

A boatie with overheating problems near Square Rocks was also helped.
