It was cold at your place, but not as cold as Warwick
IF you thought it was a little chilly this morning at your place, spare a thought for those living in Warwick which recorded minus 5.4 degrees on Friday morning.
Toowoomba and the Darling Downs shivered through the coldest day of the year, with widespread frosts blanketing the region.
It was a freezing minus 4.2 degrees in Oakey at 5.14 this morning, with the mercury plummeting to 1.8 degrees in Toowoomba at 6.24am.
Warwick's temperature got as low as -5.4 degrees at 6.10am and -5.3 degrees at Applethorpe at 6.45am.
Brisbane residents shivered through the coldest morning since August last year with the temperature dropping to 5.3 degrees.
However Weatherzone meteorologist Ben Domensino said It was far more chilly in Queensland's southwest, with temperatures of -5.4 degrees recorded in Warwick on Friday morning, Fairfax reported.
It was -2 at Amberley, -0.3 at Gatton and -0.4 at Beaudesert.
"We had a high pressure system moving over southeast Queensland overnight, so that high pressure system brought clear skies and light winds which you need to have a cold night," Mr Domensino said.
St Vincent de Paul Society has called on the community to spare some change for its annual winter appeal.
"Across the state we are getting more calls from people who are struggling to get their budgets to stretch to cover rent, food, utilities and transport for jobs," Vinnies Queensland president Annette Baker said.
"A donation could help a family to have dinner tonight, an elderly person to have their prescription filled or a warm school uniform for a child."
