'It's Destiny or nothing': dad was set on baby's name

SHERIDAN Doodson and Matthew Gahan welcomed a beautiful baby girl into their family last week.

Destiny Gahan was born at 6.18pm last Thursday at the Gladstone Hospital weighing 3880g.

Her proud mum said that the experience of holding Destiny for the first time was "overwhelming and surreal".

Ms Doodson said she didn't have an appetite for odd things during her pregnancy, but she did crave mandarins, eating about one and a half kilograms in a week.

Had Destiny been a boy, Ms Doodson says that they would have chosen the name Tariq, after a player on her partner's favourite team.

They found out Destiny's gender 18 weeks into the pregnancy.

"The name Destiny was her dad's choice," Ms Doodson said.

"He said, it's Destiny or nothing - Destiny or Destiny."

They are looking forward to taking their daughter home.

"Everything's rainbow, we didn't focus on too much pink."

The couple have been living in Gladstone since March, moving from Bundaberg for work and for a change.

Destiny has already had visits from all of her grandparents who were overwhelmed by their granddaughter.
