It’s just plain old hot weather

IT might feel like a heatwave ... but it’s just stinking hot weather for Central Queensland.

The mercury will peak in the mid-to-high 30s in Rockhampton for the rest of this week.

Yesterday was the hottest day this month, with weather websites recording a top of 37.

A spokesman for the Bureau of Meteorology office in Rockhampton said today would be a stinker for Emerald, west of the city, where temperatures are forecast to reach 40.

It will be sweltering in Clermont at 39 and a sweat-fest in Longreach at 41.

The local bureau spokesman said it wasn’t “uncomfortable” heat but it was expected to stick around until the weekend.

Queensland Ambulance Service is warning Central Queenslanders to keep cool today to avoid heat-related illnesses.

QAS Assistant Commissioner for Central Region Christopher Broomfield said there was typically an increase in demand for ambulance services during prolonged periods of hot weather, particularly for young and elderly people.
