Man charged after hiding marijuana in fuel tank
A MAN who allegedly hid 10kg of marijuana in a second fuel tank has been charged with a number of drug charges while travelling through Warwick.
Police charged the 56-year-old man with drug offences after his vehicle was intercepted by the Warwick Road Policing Unit on Jackie Howe Dr just after 5pm on Friday.
A Warwick CIB spokesman said the Palm Beach man was travelling through Warwick from interstate when he turned off the Cunningham Hwy and was stopped by police.
It is alleged that in a search of the vehicle at 7pm, officers located the 10kg of marijuana hidden in a second fuel tank.
The man appeared in Toowoomba Magistrates Court via video link on Saturday afternoon charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, supplying dangerous drugs, possessing anything used in the commission of a crime, and an unrelated charge of assault occasioning bodily harm while in company.
The man has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in the Warwick Magistrates Court today.
The charges follow similar drug raids elsewhere in the region.
On Tuesday, a search warrant was executed at an address in Yangan by Yangan police and Warwick CIB.
A 26-year-old woman will appear in court charged with possession of drug-related items.
At 4pm on Wednesday, Yangan police intercepted a vehicle with two male occupants, aged 20 and 28, in the town area.
A search of the car located drug-related items in the vehicle.
It has been alleged that the resultant search of a home also located a small quantity of marijuana and other drug-related items.
The 28-year-old man will appear in the Warwick Magistrates Court for possession of dangerous drugs and drug utensils.
The 20-year-old man agreed to attend a drug diversion program for possession of dangerous drugs.
