Proud Rockhampton grandma will be glued to Sochi tonight
IT'S likely to be Rockhampton grandmother, Dot Macoun's proudest and most nervous moment tonight as she watches her grand-daughter compete at the Sochi Olympics.
Dot and her family will be holding the sides of their seats as Michelle Steele hurtles her body at up to 135km/h down an icy track, on a sled no bigger than a McDonalds tray and braving forces over 5 Gs.
"There's only one second between first and last place and there's 20 competitors," said Dot yesterday.
It's been over a year since Bree and Matt Grentell last saw their globetrotting cousin but tonight they will be glued to the television.
"I'm so stoked she made the team," said Matt who turns 13 tomorrow, while Bree laughed at Michelle's hatred of cold weather."
"But she loves the speed and the rush," she said.
Michelle placed sixth in the 2013 world championships and tonight is hoping to bring home her first Olympic medal.
Michelle races in Heat 1 starting at 5.30pm Qld time.
You can watch online live or on Channel 10 from 8.30pm.
