Jacob ready to lead way for Keppel at Youth Parliament

JACOB Cookson is the young new face of Keppel.

Jacob has claimed the title as this year's YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament representative for the Keppel region.

He is one of 93 young Queenslanders selected to take part in this year's program, which is in its 20th year.

Keppel MP Brittany Lauga congratulated Jacob on his new role and said the YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament had a strong history of empowering young people.

"It empowers young people to take up challenges and lead the way," she said.

"I would like to commend Jacob for his choice to stand up and nominate for this excellent program and I look forward to following his progress throughout the year.

"Eighty-nine young Queenslanders have been selected to represent each electorate in the state, along with four indigenous representatives."

This month, the program will be launched with a ceremony at Parliament House and youth parliamentarians from throughout the state will meet in Brisbane to form committees and discuss ideas.

The Queensland Government provides annual funding of $60,000 to YMCA Queensland to present this opportunity to young people.
