Man shoves stolen beer down his pants, lands in jail

FAILING to stop for police, unlicensed and dangerous driving, and stealing booze has landed Neville Joseph Johnson jail time.

The boilermaker, 40, pleaded guilty by video link in Gladstone Magistrates Court to a series of charges.

He received 15 months jail but with time served will be eligible to apply for parole in February.

Johnson stole cold cans of beer by stuffing them down his pants, had plates on his car issued to another vehicle, and drove dangerously in Off Lane, where he mounted the gutter, narrowly missing people on the footpath.

"I apologise to the police and courts for my behaviour. I should have pulled over," he said.
