James plays down Titans injury woes

RUGBY LEAGUE: Ryan James has dismissed concerns over a mini injury crisis at the Gold Coast after Jarryd Hayne joined the Titans' casualty ward.

Hayne will not play for the World All Stars on Friday night after suffering a knee injury at the Auckland Nines.

Hayne's injury was not thought to be serious and he will be assessed by Titans medical staff to ensure he has not aggravated an old problem with his posterior cruciate ligament.

The Titans already have Konrad Hurrell, Dan Sarginson and Kevin Proctor battling knee complaints.

Wigan recruit Sarginson (tendinitis) and ex-Storm star Proctor (medial ligament) have had limited pre-seasons at their new club.

Hurrell is nearing full fitness and coach Neil Henry will be sweating on the availability of his players for the Gold Coast's Round 1 clash against Nines champions the Sydney Roosters on March 4.

James, in camp with the Indigenous All Stars, said Hayne's injury was not serious.

"He had a knee clash and it swelled up,” he said. "I don't think it's anything too serious. He will be all right.

"He seemed to be walking around sweet then when we got back to the hotel his knee started swelling up.

"It would have been good to see him in the All Stars.”

Prop Agnatius Paasi (shoulder) is expected to miss the opening few rounds.

James said he expected those battling knee injuries to be fit for the season-opener at Cbus Super Stadium.

"Kev is going to be close to playing by the last trial (against the Warriors in New Zealand),” he said.
