Jealousy leads to assault

WHEN Katherine May Oates saw her partner talking to another woman she flew into a jealous rage that saw her beat the woman in front of her children.

On April 15 Oates was at the Big Dam in Mount Morgan when she saw another woman, who was there with her children fishing, talking to her partner.

She yelled out at the woman before her partner came over to her and the pair left together.

But Oates returned soon after and began yelling at the woman, accusing her of cheating with her partner.

She then grabbed the woman by the hair and threw her to the ground and punched and kicked her, causing several scratches and bruises.

When questioned by police Oates admitted she was a jealous woman but said the other woman had started the fight.

She pleaded guilty to a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court.

Duty lawyer Danny Yarrow said Oates went to the dam for a barbecue when she was provoked by the other woman.

Magistrate Annette Hennessy condemned Oates’ behaviour, saying it was particularly serious because it had taken place at a family picnic area in view of the victim’s children.

Magistrate Hennessy fined Oates $1000.
