TURNING 18 is a time for change in every teenager's life, and that is exactly what Mount Morgan performer Jonathon Stock is looking forward to over the coming months.

While waiting to celebrate his 18th birthday, the gifted singer/songwriter will record and release an EP of his own music as well as learn whether he has been successful in his audition to be an X factor contestant.

But it doesn't stop there, as Jonathan has just secured a spot representing Australia at the 2013 World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles in July.

"It's a huge honour for me to be chosen to do this" Jonathon said.

"I know there it will be a really difficult competition so I'm just going to have to give it my best and try and take in as much as I can from the experience"

While most 17 year olds would be daunted by this, Jonathon is looking forward to all the possibilities that lie ahead.

"I've deferred my uni course so I could concentrate on advancing in my music career, so I'm really excited to have all these opportunities arrive so soon" he said.

Jonathon, who has been writing songs and singing since he was 13, will head to Melbourne in May to record his debut EP and is hoping to use World Championships of Performing Arts as an opportunity to promote his work.

"There are going to be a lot of people from the music industry there, so hopefully this will lead to some exposure," he said.

National director Lizette Hunt said she has strong faith in Jonathon's abilities. He is one of 39 Aussies in the competition.

"We only take the crème of the crop to LA," Lizette said.

"I believe that Jonathon will definitely stand out and do fantastic in Hollywood."

In the meantime, Jonathon is seeking sponsorship to assist in covering the costs for the trip; with an estimated $6,500 required.
