Julia wins fashion crown in a special ‘$75,000’ dress

IT'S not every day you get to wear a dress worth $75,000 to the races, so luckily for Julia Watson, it paid off.

Ms Watson was named the Most Stylish at the Coopers' Girls Grammar Race Day at Rockhampton's Callaghan Park on Saturday and it was all thanks to a very special dress.

Labelled "the frock that keeps on giving", the amazing red cape dress Ms Watson wore, teamed with a custom-made textured Italian leather Zarbella millinery piece with block shapes, came with an interesting tale.

Ms Watson said the cape was kindly donated by Ellis Ng Crews, after she won the Caulfield Cup Fashions on the Field, to Angela McCormick for the Lismore Dance for Cancer to raise money for cancer research in Australia.

Ms McCormick then auctioned the dress on eBay and after winning the auction, Maria Osborne from Ireland donated the dress back to Ms McCormick for the Lismore Dance for Cancer.

Ms Watson was then fortunate enough to win the dress and continued its Fashions in the Field winning streak at Callaghan Park.

"I will now be re-donating the dress back to Angela McCormick to raise further funds for cancer research," Ms Watson said.

"To date, the cause has raised approximately $75,000 for cancer research which is an amazing achievement.

"The dress that keeps giving will go up for auction on the Hats by Zarbella page in the next few weeks."

The Coopers' Fashions in the Field event was one of the main features of the race day.

Ms Watson received a $1000 voucher from Coopers in Kern Arcade, along with Larissa McIntosh who won the under-30 category.

The best dressed gentleman was Jarrod Black who won a weekend for two to Heron Island from Wendy Mulry Travel, while the best dressed couple, Richard and Libby Wilson, won dinner for two at Restaurant '98.
