Blues Origin win will not stop the strong words

JUST because the Blues have already won this year's Origin series, it doesn't mean the pre-game war of words has been a tame one.

The New South Welshmen were singled out by a Brisbane publication for their supposed niggling tactics, with special focus being placed on captain Paul Gallen and fellow "bruise brother" Greg Bird.

Bird took particular exception to those headlines, ahead of the game three encounter at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night.

"I'm quite surprised to hear that we were the ones niggling. Out on the paddock it seemed the complete opposite," Bird said.

"It's just pre-State of Origin jibber."

Fellow villain among Maroons fans, Blues back-rower Beau Scott, added his team would be desperate for a series whitewash.

"There's a fair bit of pressure that's been taken off us having the series wrapped up, but it doesn't mean the game doesn't mean anything to us," he told Fox Sports.
