‘Just do it', and bring a mate

WHETHER you run it or walk it, Peter Reaburn's message at the Rotary Club of Rockhampton's Rocky River Run launch breakfast yesterday was "just do it".

The CQUniversity associate professor in sport and exercise science was guest speaker at the event, which announced the campaign's target of 2000 participants this year.

The event, which aims to promote fitness while raising money for charity, was a great success last year with 1047 participants.

Rockhampton Rotary Club public relations manager Neil McDonell said the goal set for this year was very achievable.

"If we go out with the same enthusiasm I think we'll have no problem getting 2000," he said.

"If each of the people from last year bring a friend we'll be there."

Mr McDonell said it was a great thing for community members to be involved in as it allowed them to become part of something big. "It's a really fun event," he said.

Stanwell Power Station is the major sponsor for the event and its manager, James Oliver, said he was looking forward to it.

"Personally I'm more comfortable on two wheels, but I'll throw on a pair of joggers and take part," he said.

The event will be held on June 3. For more information visit rockyriverrun.com or visit the Facebook page.
