Kayak rescue in rough seas on way to North Keppel Island

A DAY kayaking on the water turned into a rescue mission yesterday.

Two women headed out from Svendsens Beach at 10am on their way to North Keppel to camp, but they didn't get far when the waves turned against them.

Yesterday's winds saw the kayakers become swamped and call for help.

The Yeppoon coastguard received the call at 1.30pm, and took just over an hour to get to the kayakers due to weather conditions.

The two female kayakers weren't injured and were taken back to Svendsens beach in the late afternoon.

The coastguard said the women were okay and paddled back to shore from the rescue boat when they came close to shore.
