Colts first loss leaves four-way tie for top of ladder
FRENCHVILLE Brumbies inflicted Colts Divas' first loss of the season to set up a four-way tie at the top of the Rockhampton Leagues Club A-grade netball competition ladder after seven rounds.
League leaders heading into round seven, Colts Divas' are now joined at the top of the ladder by Capricorn Coast Marlins, Brothers Crimson and the Brumbies in arguably the closest competition in recent memory.
Colts Divas' attacking circle pair Renee Williams and Jacinta James were given limited opportunities in the second half as Brumbies recorded a convincing 59-34 win on Wednesday night at CQUniversity Sports Complex.
Holding a slender 24-21 at half-time, Brumbies attacking duo Kate Lang and Angela Horn put the pedal down to outscore their opponents 35-13 in the second half, but it was the work of Rockhampton Leagues Club player of the match and Brumbies goal keeper Cassie Cocks which set up the win.
Her partner inside the defensive circle, Capricorn Claws captain Keanna Hopkins, praised Cocks and said she hoped the performance would provide her with a boost in confidence.
"She did an amazing job," Hopkins said. "Her footwork was really, really good and she's done a lot of work on that in recent weeks, and it showed last night.
"Generally she's stronger, both mentally and physically. I think she's doubted herself in the past ... so hopefully this gives her the shot of confidence that she needs."
