Keppel MP Brittany Lauga elected to parlimentary committee

UPDATE: Bill Byrne's media spokesperson has told The Morning Bulletin the Rockhampton MP agrees with the Premiers statements regarding Cook MP Billy Gordon.

EARLIER: Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga is champing at the bit to put her years of experience as a senior town planner to use after being elected to the Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources State Parliamentary Committee today.

"I am a passionate planner and I am very much looking forward to putting my years of experience in the industry to good use as a member of the Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources State Parliamentary Committee" Mrs Lauga said.

Mrs Lauga is a Planning Institute of Australia accredited town planner with an honours degree from Queensland University of Technology.

Her career as a planner spanned almost 10 years working as a consultant and for the State Government in the Department of Public Works.

Mrs Lauga was also named Planning Institute of Australia Queensland young planner of the year in 2013.

"I will be working hard on this Committee and as the Member for Keppel to ensure the planning of a sustainable future, the efficient provision of infrastructure and the enabling of the productive and responsible use of our natural resources" Mrs Lauga said.

The areas of responsibility of the Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources Committee include transport, infrastructure, local government, planning, trade, state development, natural resources and mines.

Committees investigate specific issues and report back to parliament.

Some committees also have continuing roles to monitor and review public sector organisations or keep areas of the law or activity under review.

The Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources Committee will be chaired by Mirani MP Jimmy Pearce and includes Member for Gladstone Glen Butcher, Member for Burleigh Michael Hart, Member for Dalrymple Shane Knuth and Member for Gregory Lachlan Millar.
