Kings import Green unlikely to return

BASKETBALL: Coach Andrew Gaze isn't expecting to see star American import Blake Green back in a Sydney Kings singlet again this season.

The NBL ladder-leaders granted the 36-year-old indefinite leave on compassionate grounds earlier this week to return to home to be with a sick family member.

"The high probability is he won't be back,” Gaze told EON Sports Radio.

"We're hopeful that he may be, but I think it's going to be a difficult one.

"We've got to give him time. We've got to give him some space.

"He needs to work through the issues that he's confronting and we are 100% supportive of that.

"But it's certainly unlikely that it'll be solved in the short term.”

The one-time LA Laker struggled in his time with the Kings, playing 10 games and averaging less than six points off the bench.

Kings managing director Jeff Van Groningen, however, rejected speculation his departure was to do with his form.
