Gillard has my support: Kirsten
AS the pressure mounts for a leadership spill, Capricornia MP Kirsten Livermore yesterday declared her loyalty to beleaguered Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
Ms Livermore, who was pictured side by side with Ms Gillard as she ousted former leader Kevin Rudd, said she wanted to end all speculation about where her support would go in a leadership vote.
"I feel the need to clarify my position following a story in the southern media.
"I am concerned that the story in Saturday's Australian might cause some confusion," she said in a statement.
"The story has my name in a column marked 'undecided' as well as in a column headed Gillard supporters.
"I wish to make it absolutely clear that I have always and will continue to support Prime Minister Gillard as she is unquestionably the best person to lead our party and the nation at this time.
"A mischievous southern media can put my name in some meaningless column if they wish, but the fact is that Prime Minister Gillard has my unequivocal, unqualified and continuing support."
There were reports at the weekend that some Labor MPs were ready to publicly challenge their leader because of her continuing low polling.
