MORE than 56,000 motorcycle riders across the globe will set out on September 24 in the Distinguished Gentlemans Ride to raise funds for prostate cancer and mental health, supporting the Movember Foundation.

Yeppoon ride co-ordinator Jason Murphy said that, on the day, distinguished gentlemen and ladies on their classic and vintage motorcycles would don their best attire and ride the Capricorn Coastline, starting at Sophies Inn Café at 66 Farnborough Rd from 9.30am for a 10.30am start.

The group will ride to the Pinebeach Hotel before travelling back along the coastline to Vue under Salt in Yeppoon CBD for lunch.

Jason said he was inspired to take part in the fundraiser when he was affected by prostate cancer through family members.

"Seeing the effects of any cancer is enough motivation to do something about it,” he said. "Last year I went in the Rockhampton ride with a few other riders from the Capricorn Coast and we thought that this year we would do one on the Coast.

"While this is the first time the event has been held on the Coast, we are hoping to turn it into a great success that we hold annually. This is all about fundraising as well as raising awareness in the community.

"The ride was first established in 2012 in Sydney when 2500 riders across 64 cities came together. The ride has since been adopted globally with over 56,000 riders from 505 cities across 90 countries participating.

"The ride was originally all about raising funds for prostate cancer then in 2016 fundraising for mental health was incorporated into the ride after one of the ride hosts passed due to depression.

"The ride itself is free. We do, however, encourage those riding to make a donation to the cause as well as helping us reach our fundraising goals by getting friends, family and colleagues to donate via each rider's personal fundraising page.”

Riders are encouraged to dress to the nines in tailored suits, crisp shirts and ties. They are also asked to bring their finest manners, neatest facial foliage and sense of fun.

To register visit /register. To donate, go to the website, select Yeppoon and follow the instructions.
