LISTEN: Landowner accuses PM of Shoalwater lies

MALRBOROUGH landowners have reacted angrily to an announcement the Prime Minister has ordered alternative sites be scouted for the Shoalwater Bay expansion, describing it as "an utter joke".

Marlborough Motors owner Danii McKenzie was shocked when The Morning Bulletin told her of the announcement.

She has accused the government of trying to diffuse the political time bomb of the expansion, saying alternative sites had already been ruled out.

Listen to her reaction below.

"I think it's an utter joke," she said.

"They are trying to diffuse the heat from this situation.

"Marise Payne (Defence Minister) announced in her meeting with the landowners that they had explored every other alternative and none of those alternatives met the requirements that they wanted, that is why they wanted this land.

"They are lying to us to try and diffuse the heat in this situation.

"What we want is for them to remove the compulsory acquisition.

"Until they say that, all of this is just them playing a game of trying to take the heat out of this situation.

"The only thing they can do is announce to everybody they are taking the compulsory acquisition out of Marlborough and they will purchase alternative land.

"Until they say that everything in between is just lies."
