Landry calls for calm in Capricornia after Paris attacks

FOLLOWING the terrorist attacks on Paris over the weekend, Michelle Landry is reminding people to be vigilant, but not to turn vigilante.

The Capricornia MP said she had already seen some upsetting posts on Facebook coming from right-wing "extremist groups of our own".

"I have had a bit of a look on Facebook and there are some dreadful things being said and I think people need to calm down with it all," she said.

"We don't want what happened in Paris to happen here but the people I have met from the Islamic community in Rockhampton are wonderful people. I do hope that some of these groups out there don't stir up people or start making attacks on people from other nations."

Ms Landry reassured the community that refugee screening was done securely, with most of those coming being "persecuted Christians" not "Islamic terrorists".

"It is a big concern but I think the same as anything, we can't hold a whole race of people accountable because of a minority," she said.
