Late Mail: Taumalolo out for Cowboys

NORTH Queensland wrecking ball Jason Taumalolo has been ruled out of this weekend's clash with Newcastle with a foot injury.

The massive blow for the Cowboys will likely see gun rookie Peter Hola shift into the 17-man squad as the side prepares to play the Knights on Saturday.

Taumalolo was ruled out by the club on Thursday after suffering a foot injury during the week.

The Cowboys have been plagued by injuries in 2019 - with representative stars Matt Scott, Jordan Kahu, Michael Morgan and Te Maire Martin all spending time on the sidelines.

Players cut: 20. Sean Keppie 21. Lloyd Perrett

Late Mail: Sea Eagles captain Daly Cherry-Evans is a confirmed starter. He completed captain's run on Wednesday after picking up a knock to the ankle last week. Sea Eagles could have two changes with Morgan Boyle in doubt due to concussion, while Des Hasler could ruin another cheapie for Supercoach in 2020 with young gun Tevita Funa a chance to come into the 17 to replace Brendan Elliott. Lachlan Croker is the other member of the 19 man squad after Lloyd Perrett and Sean Keppie were omitted 24 hours before kick-off.

Daly Cherry-Evans has been cleared to play.

Players cut: 19. Robert Jennings 21. Sam McIntyre

Late Mail: Tigers will have one change with Luke Garner ruled out due to suspension. This will see Chris Lawrence start in the second row with Chris McQueen coming onto the bench. Tommy Taulau makes his NRL debut. His preferred position is right centre which could see Esan Marsters move to left centre. Josh Reynolds is set to be 18th man. Paul Momirovski is set to retain the goal kicking duties despite missing a kick last week that would have taken the game into golden point. Coach Michael Maguire says skipper Moses Mbye could be ready to return from his hip flexor injury as early as next week. There were fears Mbye could miss the remainder of the campaign. "I heard there that he's in doubt for the season but that's definitely not the case," Maguire said. "He ran this morning but it's just a little tight through the hip flexor. So we'll see how he is next week."

Late Mail: Eels could have one change with Shaun Lane not training with the squad during the week after being snapped on social media with a bag of white powder. Tino Faasuamaleaui 21. Sandor Earl

Players cut: To come ...

Late Mail: Storm have a number of players in doubt with Jahrome Hughes (back spasms), Ryan Papenhuyzen (foot), Justin Olam (concussion/broken nose) and Tui Kamikamica (knee) all having to prove their fitness at captain's run on Friday. Hughes, Papenhuyzen and Olam are all expected to play but I expect Kamikamica to be ruled out with either Tom Eisenhuth or Max King coming onto the bench.

Players cut: To come ...

Late Mail: Rabbitohs have Sam Burgess (quad) and Braidon Burns (hamstring) both in doubt after being late omissions last week. Both will have to pass fitness tests during the week to play. Adam Reynolds struggled to get through the game last week due to back spasms. He has been managing the injury for most of the season and hasn't been training with the squad during the week. He hasn't trained again this week but should play, with a final call to be made on game day depending on how he pulls up. Connor Tracey is on standby should he be ruled out.

Adam Reynolds is managing a back injury.

Players cut: To come ...

Late Mail: Bulldogs are expected to be 1-17 but they do have Kieran Foran (hamstring/calf) and Adam Elliott (finger) both named on the extended bench. I don't expect Elliott to return as he is still having issues catching the ball but Foran will be checked at captain's run and is a chance to come into the 17.

Roosters vs  Warriors

Sunday, 2:00pm, SCG

Roosters: 1. James Tedesco 2. Daniel Tupou 3. Latrell Mitchell 4. Joey Manu 5. Brett Morris 6. Luke Keary 7. Cooper Cronk 8. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves 9. Sam Verrills 10. Isaac Liu 11. Angus Crichton 12. Mitch Aubusson 13. Victor Radley. Interchange: 14. Nat Butcher 15. Zane Tetevano 16. Poasa Faamausili17. Sitili Tupouniua. Reserves: 18. Lindsay Collins 19. Billy Smith 20. Lachlan Lam 21. Boyd Cordner

Players cut: To come ...

Late Mail: Roosters are expected to receive a massive boost with Boyd Cordner set to recover from a calf injury. He trained with the squad earlier in the week and only has to get through captain's run to be a confirmed starter. However, this could be offset with Sam Verrills in some doubt with a thigh injury. If Verrills is ruled out, Victor Radley would start at hooker with Isaac Liu moving to lock, Zane Tetevano starting at prop and Angus Crichton dropping to the bench allowing Cordner to start on the left edge.

Warriors: 1. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck 2. Adam Pompey 3. Peta Hiku 4. Gerard Beale 5. Ken Maumalo 6. Chanel Harris-Tavita 7. Blake Green 8. Agnatius Paasi 9. Jazz Tevaga 10. Leeson Ah Mau 11. Hayze Perham

Players cut: To come ...

Late Mail: Warriors will have one change with Kodi Nikorima to return after missing a game due to an ankle injury. He will come onto the bench for Adam Keighran and will likely spend time at hooker during the game, with no other late changes expected. "At this stage I would look at him (Nikorima) coming off the bench for us. I would anticipate him coming on at dummy half," coach Stephen Kearney said.

Kodi Nikorima is set to come off the bench.

 Sharks vs Dragons

Sunday, 4:05pm, PointsBet Stadium

Sharks: 1. Matt Moylan 2. Sosaia Feki 3. Bronson Xerri 4. Josh Dugan 5. Josh Morris 6. Shaun Johnson 7. Chad Townsend 8. Aaron Woods 9. Jayden Brailey 10. Matt Prior 11. Briton Nikora 12. Wade Graham 13. Paul Gallen. Interchange: 14. Kurt Capewell 15. Jack Williams 16. Billy Magoulias 17. Braden Hamlin-Uele. Reserves: 18. Jayson Bukuya 19. Blayke Brailey 20. Ronaldo Mulitalo 21. Kyle Flanagan

Players cut: To come ...

Late Mail: Sharks will have one change with Matt Prior tipped to be ruled out due to a rib injury after failing to train with the squad during the week, adding to the loss of Andrew Fifita. This will see Paul Gallen push into the front row with Jack Williams set to start at lock and Blayke Brailey to come onto the bench. Matt Moylan is also confirmed to return after missing last week due to concussion, with no other late changes expected.

Dragons: 1. Corey Norman 2. Jason Saab 3. Euan Aitken 4. Tim Lafai 5. Mikaele Ravalawa 6. Gareth Widdop 7. Ben Hunt 8. James Graham 9. Cameron McInnes 10. Paul Vaughan 11. Patrick Kaufusi 12. Luciano Leilua 13. Tyson Frizell. Interchange: 14. Jeremy Latimore 15. Korbin Sims 16. Blake Lawrie 17. Jackson Ford. Reserves: 18. Tristan Sailor 19. Josh Kerr 20. Reece Robson 21. Zac Lomax

Players cut: To come ...

Late Mail: Dragons have a few players in doubt with Korbin Sims (concussion) and Patrick Kaufusi (ankle) both needing to be checked at captain's run. Sims should be right to play but if Kaufusi is ruled out we could see Jackson Ford start in the second row with Reece Robson coming onto the bench. The other potential change could be if Zac Lomax can recover from a hamstring injury picked up in warm up in Round 20. He would replace Mikaele Ravalawa on right wing.
