Lauga backs Premier's decision to instantly dismiss Gordon

FOLLOWING the dismissal of the Member for Cook from the Labor party yesterday, Keppel MP Brittany Lauga said the Premier made the right decision.

Ms Lauga said Premier Palaszczuk had done the right thing by removing Billy Gordon from the party after details of past criminal history was revealed.

"The Premier dealt with it swiftly, handled it rationally, methodically and fairly," she said.

"The Premier wanted a government full of integrity and accountability…she is sending a message to Queensland that she truly believes in that."

Ms Lauga said the situation was disappointing to fellow members and the community.

"Everyone in the caucus is bitterly disappointed," she said.

"We work together, rely on each other, depend on each other…this has let us down, it is very disappointing…the indigenous community was celebrating his election, it's unfortunate it had to end this way."
