Leak detected in new Emerald Aquatic Centre swimming pool

A leak has been detected in the newly constructed 50-metre swimming pool at the Emerald Aquatic Centre.

A Central Highlands Regional Council spokesperson said investigations made following the suspicion of a leak in early June revealed pool water is draining into a void pump well and being discharged through the stormwater system off-site.

Council's consultant engineers provided an initial report on 5 June 2015 that identified a water loss of approximately 20 kilolitres per day and requested the leakage be monitored while the situation is investigated.

The pool's construction contractor undertook dye testing on the pool in an attempt to find the source of the leak, and the results are being reviewed.

Council will wait for the final engineer's report before making a decision on how to resolve the issue.
