Learn new tricks at The Art Shed this winter

LINO printing, hand-built pottery or silk screen printing are some of the crafts you could be learning this winter as part of the Emu Park Art Gallery's Winter Workshops.

The Art Shed at the Emu Park Gallery is once again offering a range of courses for all art lovers to get involved in.

Artist and member of the Emu Park Art Gallery Noel Brady said you did not need to have any experience to participate, merely an interest in trying out a new art form.

"We keep our costs low to allow others to share our love of the arts," Noel said.

"Many of our members are award-winning artists and have excellent skills, both as artists and teachers. This winter, we are offering a repeat of some of the popular courses held in previous years, as well as some new, exciting workshops."

A lino printing workshop will be held on Saturday, from 9am to 1pm, which will introduce participants to the designing and creating of lino prints.

"They will learn about the materials and techniques required for creating prints, which can be used to create art works, cards and posters," Noel said.

"There will also be three half-day workshops on hand-built pottery on July 4, 11 and 25.

"In these workshops participants will learn the skills of hand-building ceramics using the coil, moulding and slab methods, culminating in the firing of their work."

"Once you have completed one of our workshops you are invited to continue working in that area at the gallery, on prescribed days into the future.

"Although qualified artists will be available for guidance, these sessions are not intended as tutorials."

The Emu Park Art Gallery is also inviting the public along to attend its second exhibition this year, which will feature works from local artist Jackie Campbell on Sunday, from 3pm. Originally from Sydney, Jackie began her career painting detailed floral works on china.

After the sea-change to the Capricorn Coast, she continued to explore the beauty and colour of the natural world, and now works across many mediums including pen and ink, oils, acrylics and watercolour.
