Legal threat didn't stop Gisbergen claiming pole position

DESPITE the threat of legal action against him, Shane van Gisbergen yesterday claimed pole position for today's Race 1 of the Clipsal 500.

In the 2013 V8 Supercars Championship opener in Adelaide, the Kiwi recorded the fastest time (1:21.36sec) in the Top 10 shootout, narrowly eclipsing Mark Winterbottom (1:21.41sec).

It was his second career pole, and first for Tekno Autosports, which is sure to add salt into wounds of his former team, Stone Brothers Racing.

The 23-year-old driver broke a recently penned three-year deal later last year when he decided to retire from Supercar racing, before returning to V8s this with his family run Tekno.

And while SBR is "considering its legal position", van Gisbergen lit up the streets of Adelaide in his Holden Commodore, overshadowing both Winterbottom and Craig Lowndes, who had qualified for the shootout fastest.

Fabian Coulthard finished fourth, and will share the second row on the starting grid with Lowndes today..-
